Gender Reveal Party

As soon as I found out I was pregnant with our second baby, I knew I wanted to have a gender reveal party. The first time around we found out during the ultrasound, and honestly, it happened so fast I almost wasn't even prepared for the news. This time, I wanted to make it more special. Also, I figured this would be a great reason to gather family and friends for a party!

In June, we learned that our 20-week ultrasound was scheduled for July 15th. I decided to plan the party for yesterday, July 27th, in order to give us time to make any changes/second ultrasound in case the baby didn't cooperate the first time. I sent out invitations in late June/early July. I bought stationary and made the invites myself, and it think they turned out so cute!

We had our ultrasound, and had the technician write the gender in an envelope. I debated on how to do the actual reveal, but after checking out a local bakery a few times, I ultimately decided on cupcakes with pink or blue filling. I took the envelope to the bakery on Wednesday, and picked up the cupcakes the day before the party.

I was pretty determined early on that I was going to wear blue, and even had a blue dress picked out...up until about a week before the party. Then I got nervous, and started feeling like maybe it was a girl, and also Travis decided he was wearing blue, so I didn't want both of us wearing the same color. I decided to wear pink, and Avery wore both pink and blue.

As guests started to arrive, the majority were in blue.  I have two sisters, one of which just had a baby boy in January, and they were all decked out in blue. We had about 30 or so people at the party, including a bunch of kids for Avery to play with. I had beautiful table set up with the cupcakes (at least I thought so haha.)

The weather was calling for rain, so while we wanted to be outside, I ended up putting most of the food inside, and a few tables in the garage. We actually lucked out and it only sprinkled for a few minutes right before the party, and we were able to be outside for a little while after dinner and the reveal.

After we ate tons of good food, everyone was ready to find out what we are having!! Before we found out, I took some pictures of the pink and blue teams.

It was finally time. Travis, Avery and I chose our cupcakes and dug in....it took a few bites because the filling was pretty light and there honestly wasn't that much, haha, but we are having another GIRL!! Avery will have a little sister to play with.

After the reveal, I became a little emotional. It wasn't because I was happy/unhappy about the news; more just because I am pregnant and this type of news is overwhelming anyway, even without 30 people watching your reaction haha. I am normally the type of person who doesn't mind being the center of attention, but I think this attention would be a lot for anybody. Travis handled it very well, and he is excited too. Even though he was wearing blue, I think he was kind of expecting another girl too, so we are happy.

It was great to spend time with friends and family for a few hours after we found out, and all in all, I had a wonderful time. After going through this, I am surprised about how emotional I felt, but I also feel very excited for another little girl, and can't wait to start planning the nursery!
